SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 Review: Is it worth it?

I found SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 while looking for accommodation along the Sukhumvit line that was close to the BTS. I specifically wanted to stay near Phrom Phong Station and Bangkok’s big shopping malls like EmQuartier and Emsphere.

From previous visits, I knew there was a street in this area lined with big-name hotels such as the SKYVIEW Hotel, Hilton, and Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 (all similar in style.) SILQ Hotel and Residence sits on this very street.

Despite the price, first impressions were a little underwhelming. The lobby is simple and the check-in desks on the right-hand side feel fairly plain. The staff were friendly, but nothing stood out about the check-in experience.

Comparison with nearby hotels

For context, the cheaper DoubleTree by Hilton on the next soi (street) greets guests with freshly baked cookies. Unfortunately, they don’t offer a vegan version, which dulled the excitement for me a bit.

Rooms at SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok

I booked a suite as a treat, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was far larger than I expected, even though it was advertised as spacious.

The suite includes a small kitchen area, balcony with impressive Bangkok views, and an enormous dressing room. Did I need that much space? Not at all. Did I love it anyway? Absolutely.

The large bathroom is split into separate areas for the bathtub, shower, and toilet. The toilet was a highlight, featuring Japanese-style wash, heat, and dry settings. A fun little extra I hadn’t anticipated. This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered these futuristic latrines, Terminal 21 Shopping Mall is kitted out with them as well (only 1 stop along on the BTS from Phrom Phong Station.)

Dining at SILQ Hotel Bangkok

I didn’t try the restaurant (Weaver Experience Dining) during my stay. While I’m sure they could have made basic options like pad Thai or spring rolls for me, there are too many excellent vegan and vegetarian restaurants on Sukhumvit Soi 24 to settle for what I assumed would be mediocre, overpriced hotel food.

It’s unfortunate that this hotel doesn’t have a sky bar, because it’d really set it apart from some of the other top hotels on this street. Instead, what it does have is a large pool area (half sheltered, half outdoors.)

Pool and Onsen at SILQ Hotel and Residence

As mentioned above, one thing SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok does well is its pool area – generously sized, half sheltered and half outdoors.

For hotel residents, one of the additional parks to the pool floor is that it comes with its own Onsen – located on this same floor. When booking, information about guest use was vague. In person, I learned you need to reserve a one-hour slot. This might be inconvenient if it’s full when you’re short on time, but the upside is that it never seemed to get too busy. I visited around 5 pm and secured a slot for 6 pm, and when I arrived, there were only a couple of other women in the baths.

The Onsen itself is split into male and female sections and includes:

  • The cold plunge pool
  • A medium-temperature pool
  • A 48-degree hot pool

The changing area is modern and well-equipped with lockers, high-end hair dryers, and basic toiletries.

Location: Staying near Phrom Phong BTS

Location-wise, SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 is convenient if you don’t mind a short walk to the BTS. I booked it thinking it was closer to Phrom Phong Station, but in reality it’s about a 10-minute walk, which matches what Google Maps suggests.

Usually, I’d halve the suggested walk time, but I’d just had a hip operation and needed somewhere as close as possible. Luckily, Bangkok is the land of motorbike taxis. It was easy to grab a ride on a Grab bike for around 20–30 baht up to the SkyView Hotel (which is about as close to the BTS as you can get).

Sukhumvit 24 is busy, but the mix of traffic and big hotels makes it feel safe to walk. Heading toward the BTS, you’ll find massage shops, restaurants, the inevitable 7-Eleven, and several vegan-friendly spots.

Things to do in Bangkok near SILQ Hotel and Residence Sukhumvit 24

One of my favourite places on Sukhumvit 24 is the SKYVIEW Hotel Bangkok. It’s a 5-star hotel with some great nightlife options I keep coming back to:

  1. Yankii – This Japanese restaurant offers a fun take on fireside grilling, serving up authentic yet unorthodox dishes – prepare to be greeted with a singsong welcome as you enter! Their basement bar only adds to the fun, providing unhinged karaoke opportunities through the week, and stylish cocktail vibes at the weekend. While this isn’t a vegan restaurant by any means, they have plenty for me to choose from.
  2. Vanilla Sky Rooftop Bar – While not my favourite rooftop in Bangkok (the city has some amazing themed rooftops), it’s still in my top 10. Set 35 floors up on top of the (previously mentioned) SKYVIEW HOTEL, it delivers panoramic 360° views of Bangkok’s skyline. As a solo traveller, I’ve made plenty of local friends up there. They also offer vegan-friendly options like freshly made taco trios. Don’t miss their lychee martinis.
  3. EmQuartier Mall – Connected directly to Phrom Phong Station, this huge mall in Bangkok is packed full of high-end designer names and cool coffee shops (however, true to Bangkok mall form, their basement food court has plenty of low-budget food stalls.) Opening in 2015, it was one of the first (in a line of a few) of the larger malls to incorporate heavy, green spaces – it sports it’s own ‘rain forest chandelier.’

Value for money: Would I recommend SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok?

The big question: Would I recommend SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit 24?

Absolutely. It’s a solid option if you want to stay in the Phrom Phong BTS area. It makes a great base to explore Sukhumvit.

As an extra bonus, the hotel team happily booked my airport transfer. It was a bit pricier than using Grab or a metered taxi (500 baht to Suvarnabhumi Airport), but you get a large, modern, air-conditioned vehicle. This felt far safer and more comfortable than my experience at the Hilton DoubleTree nearby, which charged the same price for a very basic city cab whose driver was texting the whole time.

  • Overall, SILQ Hotel and Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit 24 is a strong choice for travellers wanting easy BTS access, spacious rooms, and nice facilities like the pool and Onsen.
  • While it could improve on first impressions and restaurant options, it delivers good value for its location and room quality.
